After fourteen attempts Torquay Golds won their first match of the season beating Drummers by 358 pins to 353, after three legs Drummers were 28 pins in front but three ‘6’s by Drummers last three players did not help their cause, Tony Hill (Golds) 48 and Tish Bastow (Drummers) 54 top scoring.
Willows joint leaders in division one suffered only their second defeat of the season when they were beaten by Babbacombe Cricket Club ‘A’ on the cricket club alley, needing ‘85’ to win Willows despite three spares came up five pins short losing by 383 pins to 378 with ‘Pecker’ Williams top scoring for Babbacombe with’55’ and Chris Bastow hitting ‘54’ for Willows.
Bryan Helley of division four side Skylarks was the gents highest score for the second week running, this week hitting a three spare ‘71’ on the Paignton Rugby club alley as the league leaders beat Cherries by 404 pins to 336, Robert Wray hitting a ‘50’ for Cherries without a spare, Skylarks Colin Heal Senior finished with a ‘22’ spare.
The highest ladies scorer this week was Lynn Eustice of Deltics who hit a four spare ‘69’ on the Hookhills alley, Lynn helping Deltics to a 400 pins to 390 win over relegation threatened Flower Power who have now lost five games on the trot, Brian Lake top scoring for Flower Power with a ‘61’.
New Image from division two hit the highest team score of the week with 411 on the Union Inn alley to beat Sports by ‘28’ pins with Ian Nicks (New Image) 59 and Pam Cox and Liam Cosgrave sharing top score for Sports with ‘52’ each. Old Ilminsterians are now joint top with Sports after beating Pinnacles by 383 pins to 368 on the Paignton Sea Anglers alley, Duncan Stone (Old Ilmins) 57 and Maggie Holt (Pinnacles) 63 top scoring.
In division four Hookies kept up their good form, they have only lost once all season, by beating Ragamuffins by 410 pins to 363 on the Paignton Rugby club alley with Sid Cashin hitting ‘65’ for Hookies and Andy Hobbs ‘60’ for Ragamuffins.
Division five leaders Moxhams lost by a single pin at home to Barton Golds on the Torquay Rugby club alley, 369 to 370, Paul Beeks and Chris Harvey both hitting 53 for Moxhams whilst Roger Hele hit a 57 for Golds. Acorns, Knockers and Sifam Strollers are now joint second just two points behind Moxhams. Sifam Strollers beat old rivals Buddies by 368 pins to 361 on the Brixham Sea Anglers alley to leave Buddies just two points behind with a game in hand.
In division six Allsorts are now six points clear after beating Whistlers by 358 pins to 341 on the Kirkham back alley. Rene’s Rebels and Roadrunners both have two games in hand however after Rene’s Rebels beat White Rockers and Roadrunners accounted for The Crew.
Brixham Legion Evergreens are now equal top with Strikers after Strikers lost at home to The Signers on the Sea Anglers alley by 371 pins to 361, Tudor Joseph (Strikers) 63 and Andrew Ford (The Signers) 60 top scoring. Brixham Evergreens took advantage of this slip up by beating first Wurzels by 387 pins to 322 on the Brixham legion alley and the Oddfellows by 386 pins to 324 on the same alley. Betty Hale was the star of the show by top scoring in both games with a 58 and a 61 for Evergreens. Three Links won for only the third time this season when they beat Royal Warriors by 373 pins to 349 on the Union Inn alley with Mike Evans (Three Links) 54 and Rachel Jones (Royal Warriors) 60 top scorers.
